Setting up wDOI in MetaMask — step by step
This guide walks you through everything you need: installing MetaMask, setting it up and making wDOI visible. If you have never used a browser wallet before, start at the top. If you already use MetaMask, jump straight to section 5.
What is MetaMask?
MetaMask is a digital wallet for the Ethereum network. It runs as a browser extension (Chrome, Firefox, Brave, Edge) or as an app on your smartphone. With MetaMask you can keep tokens such as wDOI safe, send them to others, receive them — and use them in applications that run in the Ethereum ecosystem.
MetaMask is open source, free of charge, and is used by several million people worldwide. It is the de-facto standard for handling Ethereum tokens. Importantly: MetaMask does not store your tokens on a central server. You hold your own keys — and therefore your tokens. That is the decisive difference compared with an exchange.
The role MetaMask plays for wDOI
wDOI is the representation of Doichain's native DOI inside the Ethereum ecosystem — technically an ERC-20 token. In order to hold, send or use wDOI in applications, you need a wallet that supports ERC-20 tokens. MetaMask does exactly that.
Once you have set up MetaMask and added wDOI, you can see your wDOI balance in your wallet, receive tokens (for example from the pre-sale), send them to others or use them later in DEX and DeFi protocols.
Installing MetaMask
MetaMask is available as a browser extension and as a mobile app. For beginners we recommend the browser version because the steps are clearer there. You can install MetaMask on your phone later and link both devices.
Download MetaMask
- Open the official page in your browser: metamask.io
- Important: make sure you really land on metamask.io — there are deceptively similar fakes. Type the address directly rather than following a search result.
- Click the Download button and select your browser (Chrome, Firefox, Brave or Edge).
- You will be redirected to the corresponding extension store. Click Add or Install.
- After installation the MetaMask icon (an orange fox) appears at the top right of your browser bar.
Create a new wallet
- Click the MetaMask icon. A start window opens.
- Choose Create a new wallet. (If you already have a wallet and only want to restore it on this device, choose "Import an existing wallet" instead.)
- Set a strong password for access to MetaMask on this device. This password protects your wallet on this computer — it is not the same as your seed phrase.
Your seed phrase
MetaMask now shows you a seed phrase: twelve English words in a specific order. This seed phrase is the only way to restore your wallet if you lose your device or forget the password.
- Write the seed phrase down on paper, not on a computer.
- Keep it in a safe place — ideally in two copies, in two different locations.
- Never share it with anyone. Not with MetaMask support, not with us at Doichain. Anyone who asks for your seed phrase wants to steal your tokens — without exception.
MetaMask will ask you to confirm the seed phrase in the next step by entering it in the correct order. This is the proof that you noted it down correctly.
Confirmation
Once you have confirmed the seed phrase, your wallet is set up. You now see the MetaMask main view with your Ethereum address — a long string of characters that starts with 0x. This address is public and can be shared safely when you want to receive wDOI or other tokens.
Make wDOI visible in MetaMask
By default MetaMask only shows Ethereum (ETH). Other tokens such as wDOI must be added once so you can see them in your wallet. There are two ways to do this — via a single-click button (recommended), or manually if the button does not work.
- Contract address
0xA2B6c1a7EFB3dFa75E2d9DF1180b02668c06da72- Symbol
- wDOI
- Decimals
- 18
- Network
- Ethereum Mainnet
Variant A — one click
Click this button while MetaMask is open in your browser. A MetaMask dialog appears with the data pre-filled. Click Add token to complete the process.
Variant B — manually
Receiving and sending wDOI
Receiving
To receive wDOI you only need your Ethereum address — the long string that starts with 0x. You can find it at the top of MetaMask, just under your wallet name. Clicking the address copies it to your clipboard.
Pass this address to the person or organisation you want to receive wDOI from. Once the transfer is confirmed on the Ethereum network (usually within a few minutes), the wDOI appears in your MetaMask wallet.
Sending
- Open MetaMask and click wDOI in your token list.
- Click Send.
- Enter the recipient address (or paste it from the clipboard).
- Enter the amount of wDOI you want to send.
- MetaMask shows you the gas fee — the transaction fee charged by the Ethereum network. This is paid in ETH, not in wDOI. You therefore need a small ETH balance in your wallet to be able to send wDOI.
- Click Confirm to submit the transaction.
Do I really need MetaMask?
No. MetaMask is the most popular wallet for ERC-20 tokens, but not the only one. If you want to consider alternatives for privacy or convenience reasons, wallets such as Rabby, Frame or hardware wallets like Ledger and Trezor (often combined with MetaMask or Rabby) work just as well for wDOI.
If you are interested in native DOI rather than wDOI — that is, in the Doichain mainchain itself — you do not need an Ethereum wallet but the DoiWallet: a dedicated open-source app for iOS and Android, which we cover on a separate page.
Common questions
If you have made it this far you have everything you need: a working MetaMask wallet, a visible wDOI balance, and the knowledge of how to receive and send it. If something did not work — write to us. We read every message.
